Quick SCC Tube Test is a biochemical test for the quick detection of somatic cell count in raw milk samples. It is based on specific immunoreactions and it is quick and reliable. it is quick and reliable. The total detection time is 10-30min

Basic information

SCC stands for Somatic Cell Count, and in the dairy industry, it refers to the number of somatic cells per milliliter of milk. Somatic cells are a mix of white blood cells (leukocytes) and epithelial cells (milk-producing cells) shed from the udder lining.

A cow's immune system sends white blood cells to the udder to fight off infections, primarily mastitis. Therefore, an elevated SCC is a key indicator of inflammation or infection in the udder, with mastitis being the most common cause.

Here's a general guideline for SCC levels:

  • Below 100,000 cells/mL: Generally indicates a healthy udder with no significant infection.
  • 100,000 to 200,000 cells/mL: May suggest a potential issue with udder health.
  • Above 200,000 cells/mL: Highly likely to indicate a mastitis infection, either subclinical (no visible signs) or clinical (visible signs like clots in the milk).
  • Above 400,000 cells/mL: In many countries, this is the legal limit for raw milk to be sold for human consumption.
